Maple Sugaring

Its maple sugaring time! Yay!

Last year we had some very generous friends who let us borrow their buckets and spigots, my brother bought us an evaporating/finishing pan, my husband reworked an old stove and made a little spot outside beside the garage.

With some considerable time and hard work, he made 6 gallons of maple syrup. Two gallons was all we needed so we had delicious gifts to give. When you consider it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup you understand why it is so labor intensive and expensive.

You might think that taking this sap would kill the tree but apparently, it's a different sap than what makes the tree grow.

I did a little research on the benefits of maple syrup, and this is what I found......It's contains a multitude of antioxidants, it has manganese and zinc, it's easier to digest than other sugars, it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, its anti-bacterial, and is said to fight free radicals. Wow, love me some maple syrup!

God is so good; He made all trees with life giving sap and He has made us with life giving blood. We need good blood to have a good mind so we can hear the Holy Spirit. Let's purpose in our heart to keep it pure for Him.
