In Genesis 37 and onward we have the story of Joseph. We can learn a very important lesson from this true and faithful servant.
He was send to find his brothers. None of them liked him because he foolishly told them about his dreams. There he was in the vale of Hebron with his brothers as an Ishmaelite caravan passed. It was then Joseph realized his life had taken an unexpected turn. His brother sold him to the caravan as a slave. When the caravan arrived in Egypt he was sold to Potiphar, captain of Pharaoh's guard. Although Joseph was nothing but a slave from the very first, he performed his duty so faithfully and diligently that before long his master made him overseer of his house. Without realizing it, God was preparing him to become Prime Minister of Egypt. But then as usual the evil one gets in there and does his best to destroy, so in walks Mrs. Potiphar on the scene, accusing Joseph of rape because he wouldn't sleep with her. No one is going to take the word of a slave over the mistress of the kingdom so he was cast into prison. Joseph was wrongly accused because he stayed faithful and true to his God. At this point Joseph might have reasoned, I've tried to do what's right and where does it get me, nothing but trouble. But Joseph did no such thing, instead he decided if he was going to be a prisoner he would be the best prisoner he could possibly be. Joseph never became bitter or quit serving God because it wasn't convenient or personally advantageous. He served God no matter what because it was the right thing to do.
Ephesians 6:5,6. "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh not with eye service as men pleasers but as the servants of Christ The will of God from the heart."
If we are called to do the dishes, mop the floors clean the toilet, get the wood in for the winter or take care of the sick our hearts can be as true and righteous as if God set us on a kingly throne. That's the principle of doing right because it's the right thing to do, not just Joseph, but all of us.
